How do I find books and articles?
You can look up books, periodical holdings, and audiovisual
materials in the
LINCC Catalog. If you have a LINCC
Account, a convenient way to find articles, periodical indexes,
and various online reference tools is through the
LINCCWeb Databases. Click here for more
information on LINCCWeb resources, or see How can I
get help? for assistance with using these tools.
Can I do my library research from
home?
If you have an Internet connection, you can use the
LINCC Catalog and a variety of
LINCCWeb Databases to find books, articles, and other information.
Access to the databases requires a LINCC
Account. Click here for more information
on LINCCWeb resources, or see How can I get help?
for assistance with using these tools.
What is LINCCWeb?
LINCCWeb is a powerful research tool that provides
24/7 online access to:
- The LINCC
Catalog, which includes the MDC libraries and all the libraries
in Florida's Community College System.
- A variety of LINCCWeb
Databases, many offering full-text articles from journals, magazines,
newspapers, and other types of information resources.
- The LINCCWeb
Portal, which allows you to search the catalog and multiple databases
simultaneously.
- The MyAccount
feature, which allows you to see what books you have checked out,
renew your books online, and request materials from other colleges.
Note: The LINCC Catalog
is available to anyone with an Internet connection, but access to the
LINCCWeb Databases, the LINCCWeb Portal,
and the MyAccount feature require a LINCC
Account.
What is Ask-a-Librarian?

Ask-a-Librarian
is a statewide "virtual reference" service that offers the opportunity
to communicate with librarians via e-mail or live chat. The live chat
component includes a co-browsing feature that allows librarians to "escort"
users to various online resources. The service is available Monday through
Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday from 10:00
a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Ask-a-Librarian is a joint project between Florida's
College Center for Library Automation
and the Tampa Bay Library Consortium.
What if I can't find what I need in
the library?
- Intercollege Loan: Books not held
by your campus library may be requested from another campus, or from
another community college in Florida through Intercollege Loan (ICL).
You may initiate your own ICL request by locating the book in the
LINCC Catalog, clicking the Request link, and then logging
into your LINCC Account.
(Note: Requests may not be placed for items designated as "NonCirculating"
or "Local Request.")
- Holds: The LINCCWeb Request feature
may also be used to place a hold on an item that has been checked
out. Your hold request is placed in a queue, and you will be contacted
when the item becomes available.
- Interlibrary Loan: Books that
are not available from any library in Florida's Community College
System may be requested from other institutions through Interlibrary
Loan (ILL). Visit or call your library's Reference
Desk for assistance with placing ILL requests for books or articles.
Or, if you have a LINCC Account
you may initiate your own ILL request by logging into the
LINCCWeb Databases. Choose WorldCat, locate the item, then
click ILL. (Note: Some items may not be eligible for ILL.)
- Please Note: Items that can be
obtained from libraries within Florida's Community College System
are usually received within 3 to 7 days. Other items may take up to
2 weeks to be received. The loan period for an ICL or ILL item depends
on the policy of the owning institution.
