The Library provides books, magazines, journals, newspapers, CD-ROMs, videos, online databases, and other materials for your research needs. In addition to our collection, we offer one-on-one reference assistance and classes in research strategies and skills.

Code of Ethics for Nuclear Medical Technologist

Principle 1: The Nuclear Medicine Technologist will provide services with compassion and respect for the dignity of the individual and with the intent to provide the highest quality of patient care.

Principle 2: The Nuclear Medicine Technologist will provide care without discrimination regarding the nature of the illness or disease, gender, race, religion, sexual preference or socioeconomic status of the patient.

Principle 3: The Nuclear Medicine Technologist will maintain strict patient confidentiality in accordance with state and federal regulations.

Principle 4: The Nuclear Medicine Technologist will comply with the laws, regulations, and policies governing the practice of nuclear medicine.

Principle 5: The Nuclear Medicine Technologist will continually strive to improve their knowledge and technical skills.

Principle 6: The Nuclear Medicine Technologist will not engage in fraud, deception, or criminal activities.

Principle 7: The Nuclear Medicine Technologist will be an advocate for their profession.

What you will find: provides a career center, continuing education opportunities, information on upcoming events and conferences, and the latest industry and legislative news. 

Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board

What you will find: provides the application and sample exam questions for the certification test, job links, other career information, and a newsletter.

The Society of Nuclear Medicine Technologist

What you will find: offers grants, awards and scholarships, conferences, continuing education opportunities, and career information with a job bank.

 
Critical Thinking

What is critical thinking: Beyond merely retrieving information, critical thinking involves the ability to reason, process and evaluate information, using it to problem solve and reach accurate conclusions.

How to evaluate information: Critically evaluating information is imperative, especially in the health fields, as it could potentially affect the health of the information consumer. Following are a few sites that will aid you in critically evaluating health information:

Health Information Literacy

What you will find: a powerpoint that will aid you in identifying quality health education materials written at various literacy levels, in various formats and in other languages; help you in limiting your use of medical jargon; assist you in instructing consumers/patients to evaluate health education materials for authority, currency, and bias; and help you improve communication skills with your co-workers.

Medical Library Association (MLA): Content Evaluation Guidelines

What you will find: poses four sets of questions on which to evaluate the content of a website.

The Health on the Net (HON) Foundation: HON Code of Conduct (HONcode) for medical and health web sites

What you will find: defines a set of rules to hold medical and health web site developers to basic ethical standards in the presentation of their information. You may search to determine if particular websites have obtained the HONcode seal.

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention

What you will find: provides up-to-date information on many aspects of health care, including diseases and conditions, vaccines and immunizations, and emergency preparedness and response. It also includes a section with health statistics.

What you will find: explains nuclear medicine procedures for the patient, including how to prepare for the procedure and how the procedure works.

Nuclear Medicine Technology Resource Website

What you will find: contains information, images, and case studies on SPECT imaging, PET imaging, and MRI imaging.

Occupational Safety and Health Administration

What you will find: provides health standards, regulations, and inspections to prevent workplace injuries, illnesses and deaths.

SPECT Tutorial

What you will find: provides a tutorial on single photo emission computed tomography (SPECT) imaging, including a history of nuclear medicine and how the gamma camera is used to detect gamma rays.

What is PET

What you will find: explains how positron emission tomography (PET) is used to detect cancers, neurological diseases, and cardiovascular diseases. This site also describes the differences between PET scans and MRI or CT scans.

The Nuclear Medicine Technology program is a 6-semester educational experience consisting of 75 semester credits for an Associate in Science degree. The 4-semester college certificate program (CCC) is available to healthcare professionals who meet the established criteria for entry.
