The Homestead Campus 2019 Commencement Ceremony will be held at the Theodore R. Gibson Health Center located at the MDC Kendall Campus on Saturday, May 4th, at 10:30 a.m.

Due to printing deadlines, only those Miami Dade College students who apply for graduation by the deadline of Monday, March 25 will have their names listed in the Commencement Program.

Getting Prepared for Commencement

Congratulations on your program completion at Miami Dade College! Your hard work and dedication will be recognized and celebrated on this momentous occasion. As we prepare for commencement, we would like to share with you the following information that will help make this day one you will remember proudly for the rest of your life.

You are eligible to participate in Commencement 2019 if your program requirements were met this academic year, or will be met by the end of summer 2019. If you meet this requirement, we urge you to join us in recognizing this educational benchmark.

Caps, Gowns, Tickets, and Tickets

Caps & gowns will be available starting April 23, until May 3. To pick up your cap, and gown, present your MDC ID at the bookstore during the days and times:

Monday - Thursday 8 am to 6 pm
Friday 8am to 2 pm

Saturday 9 am to 2 pm

There is no cost for the cap and gown if you have applied for graduation. The cap and gown are yours to keep.

Be sure to bring the green Reader Card with you to graduation. You will need to have it for the ceremony.

Tickets are not required for guests to attend.

Honorary Regalia

Graduating Phi Theta Kappa and honor students (graduates from the Fall Term and degree candidates for Spring and Summer terms who receive a 3.5 grade point average or higher on all work attempted) are eligible for special recognition as Honor Graduates. Eligible honor students will receive their honors cord and tassel when they pick up their cap and gown.

Graduating student veterans may pick up special cords to wear during commencement in the Bookstore during cap and gown distribution days. Veterans will be asked to stand during the commencement ceremony.

Special Needs and Individuals with Disabilities

Graduates who require special assistance should contact the ACCESS department at 305‐237‐ 5175, no later than April 25th. The graduation stage is wheelchair accessible to provide access for students with special needs.

We have contracted with a professional photographer to take individual photos of graduates as they cross the stage. The photo will be provided at a nominal cost. A proof of the photo and a blank order form will be mailed to the graduate’s listed address. Since we are providing this professional service to our graduates, PHOTOS MAY NOT BE TAKEN OF INDIVIDUAL GRADUATES AS THEY CROSS THE STAGE. The Kendall Campus offers numerous attractive settings for graduation pictures before and after the ceremony.

Day of the Ceremony

Family Members and Guests

In order to participate in the ceremony, we ask the graduates and guests to arrive on time. Parking is available in the student lots and in the parking garage. Please allow time for travel and parking.  Doors to the Gibson Health Center (gymnasium) open at 8:00 a.m. The doors will close at 9:50 a.m. No one will be admitted after the doors close at 10:00 a.m. The commencement ceremony is scheduled to begin at 9:50 a.m. until all graduates have completed their procession. Guests should remain seated until the last graduate has exited the Gibson Health Center at the end of the ceremony.

Day of the Ceremony/Name Cards

All graduates MUST bring their MDC ID. Please report to the Library Concourse Building 2 by 8:00 A.M. After the processional, students will remain standing for the national anthem. Male graduates are asked to remove their caps for the anthem and replace them after being seated. This is a very special day for many attendees. Please be considerate of other graduates and their families. We ask that everyone remain seated until the end of the ceremony.

For security reasons, the following items will not be allowed in the Gibson Health Center: large bags, noise makers, large cameras, tripods, coolers, balloons, banners and baby strollers. Cell phones MUST be turned off or set to vibrate mode.  All graduates, family members, and guests will be subject to a security screening with a metal detector wand and/or inspection of belongings.  Failure to consent to screening and inspection will result in a denial of entry to the Gibson Health Center.  Your cooperation is appreciated.
