The Kendall Campus 2017 Commencement Ceremony will be held at the James L. Knight Center on Saturday, April 29, at 6:00 p.m.

Due to printing deadlines, only those Miami Dade College students who applied for graduation by the deadline of Monday, March 20 will have their names listed in the Commencement Program.

Getting Prepared for Commencement


You are eligible to participate in Commencement 2017 if your program requirements were met this academic year, or will be met by the end of Summer 2017. If you meet this requirement, we urge you to join us in recognizing this educational benchmark.

Caps, Gowns, and Tickets

A limited number of extra guest tickets are available for our 6 p.m. Commencement ceremony. Tickets will be distributed in the Kendall Bookstore on Thursday, April 27th at 9:00 a.m. on a first-come, first-served basis. Each graduate may pick up a maximum of two tickets while supplies last.

To pick up your cap, gown, and 2 GUEST TICKETS*, present your MDC ID at the Kendall Campus Bookstore during the dates and times below:

  • Tuesday, April 18 – 9:00am-6:00pm (Grad Rally)
  • Wednesday, April 19 – 9:00am-6:00pm
  • Thursday, April 20 – 9:00am-6:00pm
  • Friday, April 21 – 9:00am-4:00pm
  • Saturday, April 22 – 9:00am-3:00pm
  • Monday, April 24 – 9:00am-6:00pm
  • Tuesday, April 25 – 9:00am-6:00pm
  • Wednesday, April 26 – 9:00am-6:00pm

There is no fee for the cap and gown if you have applied for graduation. The cap and gown are yours to keep. *Tickets are limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Honor Regalia

Honor regalia will be available for pick up in the bookstore between April 18-26. All graduates and degree candidates who have earned a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 GPA or higher will receive special recognition as Honor Graduates. Honor students that have applied for graduation during the Fall 2016, Spring 2017, and Summer 2017 terms will receive the following regalia free of charge: 3.5-3.69 GPA Honors Tassel; 3.7-4.0 GPA Honors Tassel & Honors Cord. Students must bring their degree audits and picture ID to pick up their items from the bookstore.


Graduating student veterans may pick up special cords to wear during commencement in the Bookstore during cap and gown distribution days. Veterans will be recognized during the commencement ceremony.

Bachelor of Applied Science Graduates

Bachelor of Applied Science (BAS) students may pick up their graduation medals at the School of Business (R427) between April 24 - 28, from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday-Thursday and 8 a.m.- 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Students must have a valid MDC ID to pick up these items.

Special Needs and Individuals with Disabilities

The James L. Knight Center is ADA compliant. Handicapped-accessible areas are reserved inside for our guests with special needs. Handicapped-accessible and special needs parking will be available adjacent to the James L. Knight Center in the 1,450 space Knight Center/ Miami Tower Garage operated by Miami Parking Systems. Wheelchairs are not provided by Miami Dade College or the James L. Knight Center. Students can call the ACCESS department at 305-237-2767 for additional requests.


Professional photographers will photograph all graduates as they walk across the stage. A proof of the photo and a blank order form will be emailed to the graduate’s listed address. PERSONAL PHOTOS MAY NOT BE TAKEN OF INDIVIDUAL GRADUATES AS THEY CROSS THE STAGE.

Day of the Ceremony

Graduating students should arrive in their cap and gown at 4:30 p.m. and follow the signs to the graduate registration area inside the Riverfront Hall – North Room at the James L. Knight Center. All graduates MUST bring their MDC ID, name card, cap, gown, and tassel. Purses, handbags, and photographic equipment cannot be carried into the theater or across the stage. It is suggested that graduates safeguard these items by leaving them with a family member or guest that will be part of the audience. Seating for graduates will be available on a first-come first-served basis. We encourage you to arrive at 4:30 p.m.

Guests will be able to enter the theater beginning at 4:30 p.m. The ceremony will begin promptly at 6:00 p.m. and is expected to end at 8:00 p.m. This is a very special day for many attendees so we ask that everyone remain seated until the end of the ceremony. Cell phones MUST be turned off or set to vibrate mode during the ceremony.

Directions, Parking and Public Transportation

We encourage guests to utilize the Metro Rail system to avoid traffic. Patrons can take Metro Rail to the Government Center stop, transfer to the Metromover and take to the Knight Center stop. Metro Rail fare is $2.00 and runs from 5 a.m. until midnight. The Weekend service runs every 30 minutes until closing. The Metromover is free.

Guests may park at the Miami Dade College Wolfson Campus at no cost and access the Metromover at the College/Bayside stop and take to the Knight Center stop. Please allow 15 to 20 minutes for this commute. The closest handicap accessible parking is located in the Miami Tower. Guests with limited mobility may be dropped off in front of the Hyatt Regency Miami’s valet driveway.

Guests may also park at the James L. Knight Center at a cost of $15 per vehicle. Advance parking may be purchased here.

Everyone entering the theater must have a ticket, including infants and children. Cell phones must be silenced or turned off. All persons, including graduates and guests, entering the James L. Knight Center are subject to a security screening with a metal detector wand and/or inspection of belongings. Failure to consent to screening and inspection will result in a denial of entry to the James L. Knight Center.

Items not permitted: Coolers, baby strollers, banners, noisemakers, balloons, large cameras and tripods.
