COMPASS-ESL |
|
|
|
Students without sufficient
proficiency in English to take the CPT are required to
take the COMPASS-ESL and be placed in the designated English as a Second
Language for Academic Purposes (EAP) course. This includes students with
foreign degrees that were earned from an accredited institution where the
official language of instruction is English. |
|
| The COMPASS-ESL is a computerized
test which measures skills in reading vocabulary, reading comprehension,
grammar, and listening comprehension. Students may also be required to write
a short essay and meet with an advisor prior to placement. A documented
score of 550 on the paper and pencil Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL)
or a 213 on the computerized TOEFL exempts a student from EPT testing and/or
completion of EAP courses. CPT testing is required prior to placement in
any course other than EAP courses. |
