
The purpose of the District Office of Academic Affairs is to advance the mission, vision and strategic plan of the College. Through creative partnerships and collaborative efforts, Academic Affairs provides leadership in initiatives focused on student success, faculty excellence, innovations in teaching and learning, advancements in pedagogy and technologies, program development and implementation, and international education.
District Academic Affairs plays a central role in advancing institutional priorities and fostering excellence across the college. The area provides leadership in shaping best practices and innovations that strengthen teaching and learning, supports student success and enhances the overall academic experience. The division is engaged in the implementation of the strategic priorities of the college, guides the development of academic programs and curriculum, oversees academic policies and procedures, and ensures alignment with state and accreditation standards. Through its wide-ranging initiatives, District Academic Affairs supports faculty and students’ growth, expands educational opportunities and drives continuous improvement across all academic areas at MDC.
Academic and Faculty Affairs functions as a strategic hub within Academic Affairs, with a vital role in institutional reviews and reporting, academic planning and leading compliance efforts related to textbook affordability through Shark Pack initiatives, while fostering collaboration across campuses and with community partners.
The Office of Academic Programs (OAP) is a strategic area leading collegewide curriculum planning, development and implementation. Responsibilities include the development and maintenance of existing programs and courses, alignment of course learning outcomes with institutional goals, compliance with Florida Department of Education (FDOE) reporting requirements, while supporting all aspects of the academic program life cycle.
Academic Scheduling supports the College mission by designing and managing annual course schedules aligned with student educational needs and faculty workload. Through innovative practices, it plays a vital role in promoting student success, improving retention and ensuring timely completion, while enhancing the overall academic experience.
Articulation and Academic Pathways is the primary liaison with Miami-Dade County Public Schools, private and charter schools, home education, the implementation of dual enrollment and career pathways programs and higher education institutions. The unit leads the creation of articulation agreements at the local, national and international levels to expand transfer opportunities and strengthen industry partnerships that prepare students for the workforce.
General Education, Learning Outcomes and Assessment drives college-wide strategy for the development, implementation, analysis and reporting of learning outcomes. International Education advances the international competence of students, faculty, administrator and the broader community. It coordinates study abroad programs, develops academic partnerships worldwide, facilitates educational exchanges and leads international marketing and recruitment efforts while welcoming global visitors to foster meaningful cross-cultural collaboration and learning.
The core function of a Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP) is to advance student learning and success by focusing on a specific topic critical to continuous improvement in educational quality. Engaging in a QEP is essential for accreditation, concentrated improvement and broad-based support from students, faculty and staff. At Miami Dade College (MDC), the 2025-2030 QEP aligns with the strategic plan to enhance students' AI readiness skills, preparing them for the evolving workforce. The QEP supports MDC's strategic goals by aligning with the college's mission, enhancing student learning outcomes and providing professional development for faculty.
Carl D. Perkins Career and Technical Education, Foreign-Trained Professionals
The Office of Articulation and Academic Pathways collaborates with academic deans and faculty to expand accelerated learning opportunities through prior learning assessments, credit articulations, alignment with Florida Department of Education (FLDOE) Gold Standard Articulation Agreements, approved industry certifications and training programs.
The Humanities Edge Grant
Humanities Edge is a Miami Dade College grant-supported initiative in partnership with Florida International University that uses high‑impact practices to boost student learning and success. The program's flagship initiatives embody the core goal of advancing undergraduate research opportunities in the Humanities and promoting effective strategies to enhance student-engaged learning, transfer success, faculty development and curricular innovation.
Perkins Innovation and Modernization (PIM) and Tech Credentials for Tomorrow’s Workforce
The Office of Articulation and Academic Pathways leads the implementation of the Perkins Innovation and Modernization: Tech Credentials for Tomorrow’s Workforce (TCTW) grant, a multi-year initiative supporting guided pathways dual enrollment across Miami-Dade County Public Schools. The grant aims to expand student participation and credential attainment in technology-related Associate in Science degree programs.
