College Preparatory Reading

Course Description:
REA 0007 is a college preparatory reading course which builds vocabulary skills, literal and critical comprehension skills, and successful reading strategies. Lab assignments required. Special fee. 4 credits.
Prerequisites:

Placement by either Scholastic Assessment Test (SAT) verbal subtest score; American College Testing (ACT) Reading subtest score; FCAT reading subtest score; College Entrance Exam Reading subtest score.

The mission of the Kendall Campus College Prep Department is to provide accessible, high-quality instruction that develops the skills, competencies, and attitudes necessary to meet the needs of a diverse population of developmental learners as they pursue their academic goals. Our program is designed to bring students to the appropriate reading level of academic competency needed for college success.

Grading Policy

DEPARTMENTAL FINAL EXAM

Students must first complete lab assignments and satisfy course requirements of 300 points to be eligible to take the Departmental Final Exam.

FINAL GRADE

*S (Satisfactory) = 300 to 400 points plus final exam score of 60% or higher on the Departmental Final Exam and all reading class requirements completed; register for REA 0017.
*P (Progress) = 200 to 299 points and/or final exam score below 60%; retake REA 0007.
*U (Unsatisfactory) = Below 200 points; retake REA 0007. (NOTE: A “U” is considered an “F” in calculating the grade point average.)
*W (Withdrawal) = Retake REA 0007.
