Prestigious ballet companies represented at festival
The International Ballet Festival of Miami was founded in 1995 with the main objective of showcasing international ballet stars in South Florida. Since then, the festival has emerged as one of the most successful in the country, bringing some of the most acclaimed ballet dancers in the world to South Florida.
The 13th year is no exception. This year’s performers included International Young Ballet Medal Winners, Miami modern and contemporary ballets, a classical and neoclassical gala and a grand gala of stars. This year’s participating ballet companies are from the United States, Canada, England, Austria, Germany, France, Belgium, Italy, Spain, Slovenia, Argentina, Mexico and Brazil.
Under the leadership of founding artistic and executive director Pedro Pablo Peña, the International Ballet Festival of Miami hosted performances in Miami, Miami Beach and West Palm Beach over a 14-day period beginning in August and ending in September.
Miami Dade College was a proud presenter of the International Ballet Festival of Miami, along with Miami Hispanic Ballet and American Airlines. This year, the festival commenced with the unveiling of the official poster (by Cuban artist Luis Miguel Rodríguez) at the Tower Theater, which is operated by MDC’s Cultural Affairs Department.
