MDC’s Alley-Oop Pass

MDC students with winning robotics project
MDC students finished No. 1 in the state at the Institute for Electrical and Electronics Engineers 2014 SoutheastCon.

They received no funding for their project. Yet, Miami Dade College students recently finished No. 1 in the state among public schools at the Institute for Electrical and Electronics Engineers 2014 SoutheastCon in Lexington, Ky.

MDC’s nine-member Robotics Club also finished eighth nationally, beating out 32 other four-year schools such as Duke, the University of Miami, Clemson, Florida, South Florida and Central Florida.

The competition required students to design a robot that shoots a projectile from various distances in a game that emulates the dynamics of basketball. Robots navigated shooting lines and scored points by firing Nerf darts at their targets. Teams were rated based on their robots’ accuracy and speed.
