Good Ideas Become a Reality

Capitalizing on Miami’s reputation as a top city for entrepreneurial endeavors, Miami Dade College has launched an exciting new initiative that will create a hub for innovation, creativity and entrepreneurship at the College.

The Idea Center at MDC offers a place for students of all disciplines to gather, collaborate and take advantage of a variety of resources and training to develop and nurture ideas. Based at Wolfson Campus, the Center has built its program around five key elements:

  • Preparing the College leadership and faculty to infuse entrepreneurial spirit and methods across the curriculum
  • Creating co-working spaces to encourage idea generation, sharing and interaction
  • Establishing an educational-focused accelerator where students may test and build ideas
  • Capitalizing on MDC’s extensive alumni network and community support to establish an entrepreneur mentoring program
  • Developing entrepreneur-focused programming and events
As part of this dynamic programming, the Idea Center will host accomplished business professionals from around the world through the new Pioneers@MDC speaker series, which allows students to lead the session by asking candid questions to enhance the program’s educational value.

The inaugural session will feature Juan Diego Calle, founder and CEO of .CO Internet, recently acquired by Neustar Technologies for $109 million. Under Calle’s leadership, .CO was launched internationally in July 2010 and quickly became one of the most successful domain extensions in history, with more than 1 million domain names registered by people and companies in 200 countries worldwide. Previously, the Colombian-born businessman was the co-founder and CEO of, a company that became the largest online search advertising engine in Latin America and was sold to Yahoo! in 2005.
