Libraries in the Digital Age

Miami Dade College is a locus for readers, with its world-renowned Miami Book Fair each fall and year-round Center for Writing and Literature. It comes as no surprise that this strong tradition made MDC the perfect location for a recent visit by John Palfrey, board chair of the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation and author of Biblio Tech: Why Libraries Matter More Than Ever in the Age of Google.

He joined Alberto Ibargüen, president and CEO of the Knight Foundation, to speak to a group of stakeholders at the Idea Center at MDC’s Wolfson Campus. They stressed the importance of keeping public libraries alive and well, despite budget constraints. They also urged public libraries to reinvent themselves in the current digital age, since public libraries are crucial in providing access to all, especially children who need them for class assignments and don’t have computers at home.
