OSHA awards grants to nonprofit organizations on a competitive basis through its Susan Harwood Training Grant Program. Grants are awarded to provide training and education programs for employers and workers on the recognition, avoidance, and prevention of safety and health hazards in their workplaces. OSHA selects the safety and health topics and holds a national competition to award grants.
Miami Dade College, North Campus, School of Continuing Education and Professional Development received a Susan Harwood Grant to:
Develop a Needs Assessment to identify the health and safety issues for "at risk" populations in Miami-Dade County, Broward County and Monroe County.
Develop curriculum for employers and employees in Construction and General Industry in Spanish and Haitian Creole.
Hold a Introduction to Health and Safety.
Schedule two Health and Safety training sessions customized to the needs of the service area.
At the end of your training session you will:
Have an overview of their rights and responsibilities under OSHA in English, Spanish or Creole.
Be able to recognize workplace safety hazards and learn about Fall Protection in construction and general industry.
Be able to identify and properly use Personal Protection Equipment in order to avoid accidents and injuries.
