SEEK OUT YOUR FORMULA SUCCESS

by Professor Marisol L. Regidor

Are you rundown staying up all night studying alone? Feeling a bit frustrated? Don’t know anyone on campus yet? Don’t sweat it! Miami Dade College and its practical line up of help can assist you in getting back on your feet and aid you in a variety of suggestions that will facilitate your learning at the best institution in the country!

First and foremost, recognize when you need help and don’t be afraid to ask for it. Miami Dade College’s InterAmerican’s Campus Project EXITO offers free tutoring for students enrolled in classes at the campus. Project EXITO has a wide-range plan designed to support the campus in five main areas: student services, technology, community outreach, diversity, and research. The overall goals of Project EXITO are to “provide academic support and to promote student success and retention. All of the activities are coordinated with several departments on campus.”

Call Project EXITO at 305-237-6365, ask for David Countin, and get ready to start earning A’s on your tests and homework assignments.

In addition to tutoring, students should make a connection with peers in courses, exchange phone numbers, and email addresses. Connectivity is critical in a college environment. Who better than your classmates to help you study?

Study groups are another way to help you understand class material. Keep in mind that two heads are better than one. Working together in pairs or in small groups offers many benefits if activities are well organized and specific roles are shared. L ook for dedicated students, watch for people who ask questions and take notes during class, and find people you are comfortable with and who share some of your academic goals.

Seeking the help you need is the beginning to a successful college experience. Do what you can to succeed, but whatever you do—DON’T GIVE UP!
