DANCE
The Dance-Arts Department is a component of the Department of Music, Theatre and Dance within the Academic Affairs Division. This fine arts entity seeks to train young talented dance students who seek careers in professional dance related fields. This area of concentrated study emphasizes traditional values and formal disciplines in its training process.
Dance major students complete their program of studies and requirements at the New World School of the Arts Campus or Wolfson Campus. The varied backgrounds and expertise of our highly qualified professional faculty and adjunct faculty allow the students to experience a variety of dance forms from classical ballet to post-modern dance. Various performance opportunities further develop the student's training, technique, and experience. Each year dance students enjoy the opportunities to perform in selected entertainment venues and workshops.
The curriculum, while based on the traditional training of classical ballet and contemporary techniques, remains flexible to keep current with the continuous evaluation of dance related fields of work. It reflects the belief that the dance students must be proficient in a variety of dance forms and disciplines in order to compete in today's professionally related fields of dance.
All college dance courses and rehearsals are conducted in our modern, clerestory-lit, air-conditioned dance studios, that feature "sprung" floors specifically designed to meet the needs of dance students.
