Scholarship Details
Scholarship Description
- Covers only in-state tuition and eligible class fees. For students not eligible for in-state tuition, the scholarship covers the in-state portion if all other requirements are met.
- Good for 60 college-level credits toward an Associate in Arts or Associate in Science degree at Miami Dade College
- Special fees for the aviation or culinary arts programs are not covered
Eligibility Criteria
- First-Time-in-College or Graduating Dual Enrollee
- Direct Entry, graduating from high school May-July, 2012
- Weighted cumulative high school GPA > 3.00
- Graduation from a public or private high school in Miami Dade County with a standard high school diploma
- GED recipients must earn the diploma during the time period above and meet the test score requirements for Bright Futures Florida Academic Scholars (i.e. 1270 on the SAT, or 28 on the ACT)
- Students without a GPA on their transcripts (e.g., home schooled) must earn the diploma during the time period above and meet the test score requirements for Bright Futures Florida Academic Scholars (i.e. 1270 on the SAT, or 28 on the ACT)
- Must live in Miami Dade County
- Must complete FAFSA (if you are unable to complete a FAFSA, please click here)
- Be ready for college-level courses (must meet the minimum course placement scores)
- Covers the fall and spring semesters only
- Must enroll full time for at least 12 credits each fall and spring semester
- Must register for Fall 2012 semester
- Courses dropped or failed count toward the 60-credit limit of the scholarship
Other Provisions
- The American Dream Scholarship will be applied after all other scholarships, financial aid, grants and Florida Prepaid College Plan funds have been applied
- The American Dream Scholarship is not disbursable in cash
Deadline
By August 1, 2012
- The student must be admitted to Miami Dade College
- The student must have completed FAFSA (if unable to complete a FAFSA, please click here)
- Miami Dade College must have received a high school transcript showing the date of graduation and a cumulative weighted high school GPA > 3.00
- Miami Dade College must have on file test scores demonstrating readiness for college-level courses
- The student must be registered for 12 or more credits
