Art in Vogue
In the midst of the art fair frenzy that brought hundreds of thousands of art lovers to Miami this winter, Miami Dade College’s Museum of Art + Design dressed up in grand fashion with a world-class retrospective exhibition of textile masterpieces by powerhouse designing duo Isabel and Ruben Toledo.
One of fashion’s most sought-after designers, Isabel has collaborated with her husband and illustrator Ruben for more than 30 years. In Toledo/Toledo Full Circle, the Museum highlighted their artistic fusion in a comprehensive display of works from concept to final product, including a section dedicated to the iconic lemongrass ensemble worn by First Lady Michelle Obama to her husband’s historic 2008 inauguration. Adding tender significance to the exhibition was its location at Miami Dade College’s National Historic Landmark Freedom Tower, where the Toledos were first processed upon their arrival to the U.S. from Cuba as children.
