Student Recipes Earn Dr. G’s Golden Seal

Several students at MDC’s acclaimed Miami Culinary Institute (MCI) will have their recipes featured nationally after winning the first annual Dr. G’s MCI Student Culinary Cook-Off, a new partnership between MDC and the nation’s fastest-growing weight-loss franchise.

Dr. Charles Goldsmith, founder of Dr. G’s Weight Loss & Wellness, worked with the Institute to develop menus that incorporated optimal amounts of fat, carbohydrates and protein. Judges scored each team based on presentation, taste, sense of ease and nutritional value. The winning dishes went to Maricela Acevedo and Dennisha Manderville for their breakfast dish, the “Light and Bright Omelet”; Marie Julien-Milien and Sybil Bicett for their lunch dish, “Haystacks on Lettuce Leaf”; and Liz George and Christopher Porro for their dinner dish, “Poached Basil Tilapia With Bok Choy.”

“We were extremely impressed by the students’ passion for the competition and the caliber of meals,” Goldsmith said. “They are simple for our customers to re-create at home and all the dishes tasted wonderful.”

The winning dishes will be integrated into Dr. G’s meal plans for their customers and will be made available nationwide.
