MDC was the only community college in Florida to earn the 2015 Community Engagement Classification from the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching.

Miami Dade College can proudly claim the distinction as the only community college in Florida to earn the 2015 Community Engagement Classification by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching.
The elective classification involves data collection and documentation of an institution’s mission, identity and commitment to community engagement. MDC is also one of only 20 community colleges in the entire nation to receive this honor.

Miami Dade College has a long-standing, institution-wide commitment to community engagement through numerous college initiatives such as the Institute for Civic Engagement and Democracy, academic service-learning, the Earth Ethics Institute, extensive community-campus partnerships and myriad other student service learning and engagement initiatives.
