Powerful Partnerships

Ahead of the Game

Kicking off with a bang this fall, MDC’s Miami Animation and Gaming International Complex (MAGIC) continues its momentum roll with exciting events and new partnerships that benefit students and the entire animation industry.

Among the top reasons MAGIC stands apart is its commitment not only to ensuring students gain the skills and experience demanded by the industry, but also its ability to help them get a foot in the door to jobs. One of its main keys to success: collaborating with the industry.

Power in Partnerships

In addition to MAGIC’s partnership with Univision that leads to internships at the world’s No. 1 Spanish-language network, a new collaboration with VIACOM International Studios adds another outlet for students to gain work experience and a solid chance at jobs.

As part of their academic preparation, MAGIC students work on projects that could be distributed by VIACOM, parent company of Paramount Studios. “These projects wouldn’t be limited to animation and game design for entertainment,” said MAGIC Chair Mauricio Ferrazza. “They would explore innovative ways these technologies are being used in several industries.”

Another recently solidified partnership takes MDC students to Brazil to study at the new, state-of-the-art Museu do Amanhã (Museum of Tomorrow) in Rio de Janeiro. A work of art unto itself, designed by world-renowned architect Santiago Calatrava, the technology museum will be the perfect destination for MAGIC’s aspiring innovators.

An Insider’s View

MAGIC students get yet another edge with the MIA Animation Conference, hosted by MDC and organized by Ferrazza. The annual professional conference brings industry leaders to Wolfson Campus to talk shop, inspire innovation and give students one-of-a-kind insight into the fields of computer animation, gaming, visual effects and motion graphics.

“We have brought world-renowned industry  speakers who offer master classes along with software demos and multiple panels,” said Ferrazza. “It has been designed to be a forum for active networking and practical information exchange with strong commitment to and emphasis on education while developing and nourishing new talent.”

One of the many renowned speakers at this year’s MIA Animation was Next Galaxy CEO Mary Spio, who is returning in December to teach a two-week course in virtual reality, one of the hottest currents in animation and gaming.
