Prof. Jingping (Barbara) Guo
Professor of Chinese Language & Culture

Jingping Guo was a Professor of Chinese Language and Culture at the Confucius Institute and an associate professor of English at Jiangsu Normal University. She joined the staff of the Institute in the spring of 2013 and completed a three–year teaching assignment at Miami Dade College. She holds an M.A in Contrastive Linguistics from Jiangsu Normal University and her research focus is the translation of Chinese classics into English as well as that of Shakespeare’s classics into Chinese. Prior to her appointment at the Institute, she taught Chinese language and culture to international students in China. This was a work experience that she enjoyed profoundly and which she was happy to be accomplished at MDC. Outside of teaching, Prof. Guo was the coordinator of the Chinese Culture Club activities at MDC’s Kendall Campus she enjoyed sharing her mastered skills in traditional handcrafts and Chinese cuisine with her friends, acquaintances and students.

Prof. Yajuan Huang

Prof. Yajuan Huang
Professor of Chinese Language & Culture

Prof. Huang is from Henan, China and joined the staff of the Confucius Institute as a Professor of Chinese Language and Culture this fall of 2013. She received a B.A. in History (2003) and an M.A. in Ancient Chinese History (2006) from Henan University. From 2006 to 2007, she taught History at Zhengzhou University of Light Industry and served as assistant supervisor of IELTS at the British Council of IELTS Test Center. She brought her current assignment at Miami Dade College, seven years of teaching experience, including one year of teaching Chinese at Emory University, Georgia. She taught Chinese at the Wolfson Campus, and during the spring of 2014 she was in charge of coordinating the Chinese Culture Club activities of the North Campus.

Volunteer Teacher Xiaoying Wang

Volunteer Teacher Xiaoying Wang

Ms. Xiaoying Wang joined the staff of the Confucius Institute at MDC in the spring of 2015 as an instructor of Chinese Language and Culture. She received a B.A. in Economics from Nanjing University of Finance and Economics and an M.A. in Chinese Language Teaching from Jiangsu Normal University in China. Born and raised in China’s Inner Mongolian region, she has special interest and experience in teaching Mandarin Chinese as a second language. In addition, she is talented with Tai Chi, Gourd Flute instrument and traditional art of Chinese paper-cutting. Prior to her appointment at MDC, she received professional training from the Confucius Institute Headquarters (Hanban) in Beijing and became a Hanban-certified Chinese instructor. She taught Mandarin Chinese at MDC North Campus and assists with CI administrative work on Wolfson Campus.

Volunteer Teacher Xiaoying Wang

Volunteer Teacher Yaqing Yu

Ms. Yaqing Yu joined the staff of the Confucius Institute as an instructor of Chinese Language and Culture in January, 2015. She received her BA and MA in TCSL (Teaching Chinese as a Second Language) from Jiangsu Normal University, and was a Hanban-certified Chinese language teacher. She has had four years of experience in teaching Chinese as a second language. She was a teacher in Xuzhou Universal IELTS English School and a translator in Xuzhou Friendship Foreign Service Corporation. A member of the Talent Pool of International Institute of Jiangsu Normal University and of Xuzhou Artist Association, Ms. Yu is talented with various Chinese Art forms, such as Taiji, paper-cutting and Chinese painting. She has won the “Award of Excellence” at Jiangsu Normal University’s Calligraphy and Painting Competition. Ms. Yu enjoys sharing various Chinese culture and art in her teaching. She taught Chinese language at MDC Wolfson Campus.

Prof. Han Li

Prof. Han Li
Emeritus Professor of Chinese Language & Culture

Han Li was a Professor of Chinese Language and Culture at Miami Dade College’s Confucius Institute and a lecturer of English at Jiangsu Normal University. He joined the staff of the Institute in 2012 and in 2013 completed a two–year teaching assignment at the Miami Dade College. He holds an M.A. in English Language and Literature from Jiangsu Normal University and a B.A. in English Education, also from the same institution. Prior to accepting the position at the Institute, Prof Li taught a large number of English and Chinese language courses at his alma mater–Jiangsu Normal University–to both Chinese and international students. He has published a number of articles in his field and his research work has been featured in the Chinese Culture Monthly, the Journal of Xuzhou University and China Book Press. Outside of teaching, Prof. Li was the coordinator of the Chinese Culture Club activities at MDC’s Wolfson Campus.

Prof. Wensheng (Kevin) Yang

Emeritus Professor of Chinese Language & Culture

Wensheng Yang was a Professor of Chinese Language and Culture at Miami Dade College’s Confucius Institute and a lecturer at Chongqing University of Posts and Telecommunications – College of Arts and Sciences. He holds an M.A. in Chinese Language and Literature from Southwest Normal University and his specialization is the teaching of Chinese as a Second Language. Over the years, he has taught a broad range of courses pertaining to Chinese language and culture. Some of these courses include business spoken Chinese, Chinese culture for travelers, advanced spoken Chinese and a wide array of courses in listening, reading comprehension and writing for non–Chinese speakers. Outside of teaching, Professor Yang was the coordinator of the Chinese Culture Club activities at MDC’s North Campus and draws from his expertise in Chinese ethnic songs, dances, tea-ceremonies and tai–chi to plan student activities therein. Prof. Yang completed his three year teaching assignment at Miami Dade College in the fall of 2013.
