Midwifery (Associate in Science)
Approximate Costs
Tuition for the 2006-2007 school year is $68.94 per credit for in-state students and $228.76 per credit for out-of-state students. Based on these per-credit rates estimated tuition for the full Associate in Science program (90 credits) is $6204.60 for Florida residents and $20588.40 for out-of-state residents. If you have completed your general education and natural science courses at another accredited college or university and take only the Midwifery Program courses (56 credits), tuition for the midwifery program, calculated at current per-credit rates, will be approximately $3860.64 for in-state students and $12810.56 for out-of-state students. Tuition is due at the beginning of each term and can be determined by multiplying the number of credits by the cost per credit hour and the appropriate fees. Additional laboratory fees exist for some courses and may total up to $100.00 per semester. Textbooks may cost up to $500.00 a semester. An additional annual fee of $26.00 for medical accident insurance is required. Students are required to purchase lab jackets, a name badge, goggles, gestational wheel, bandage scissors, stethoscope, blood pressure cuff, tuning fork, percussion hammer, pen light, and measuring tape. All of these items can be purchased in the campus bookstore for approximately $250.00. You may need to purchase additional midwifery equipment, such as fetascope, neonatal stethoscope and suturing instruments, which may cost up to $500.00.
Physical examinations and immunizations could cost approximately $200.00. All cost are subject to change.
All Medical Center Campus students pay fees for liability and accident insurance. These policies cover you while you are engaged in activities as a student during class, lab, and clinical sessions. Students will pay the fee for liability insurance when they enroll in their first clerical course for the academic year. The cost of liability insurance is established by the insurer and will increase every year. The cost for Midwifery students during the 2006-2007 academic year is approximately $6000.00. We anticipate an increase of $500.00 each year.
All students at the Medical Center should apply for financial aid, which includes the Federal Pell Grant, Federal Supplemental Grant, Federal Perkins Loan, Federal Work Study, and Federal Subsidized loans. The Campus also offers emergency short-term loans and a variety of scholarships.
Application can be made in the Financial Aid Office (Room 1201) on the Medical Center Campus. Those who apply before April 1 st for the following academic year are given priority. Only courses in which students have registered before the 100 percent refund date qualify for financial aid. For additional information, call the Financial Aid personnel at 305-237-4160.
