Where Can I get information on the Practical Nursing program?

How long is the Practical Nursing program?
The Practical Nursing program is a one-year program. The program starts in August and finishes in July.
What are the requirements to enter the Practical Nursing program?
Besides applying to the program, applicants need to take the TABE test and the NLN PAX PN test.
What is the required score for the TABE test?
Applicant must score 11.0 on all three subjects of the TABE (Language, Reading, Maths) in order to be admitted to the Practical Nursing program.
What is the required score for the NLN PAX PN test?
There is not a required score for the NLN PAX PN test. However, the higher you score on the NLN PAX PN, the better chance that you have to be admitted to the Practical Nursing program.
Who are exempt from the TABE test?
Applicants with an Associate degree or higher are exempt from the TABE test. Also, applicants, on the first attempt, score at college level on the College Placement Test (CPT).
Who are exempt from the NLN PAX PN test?
All applicants must take the NLN PAX PN test before being admitted in the Practical Nursing program.
How many times can I take the TABE test?
You can take the TABE test as many times as you want. However, you must wait for thirty days between each TABE test.
How many times can I take the NLN PAX PN test?
You can only take the NLN PAX PN test twice (two times) before attending the Practical Nursing program. The last score that you have before the deadline will be the considered score.
When is the deadline application for the Practical Nursing program?
The deadline application for the Practical Nursing program is May 15 of every year.
When can I repeat a course while I am in the program?
You can repeat a Practical Nursing course (PRN) the following year because PRN courses are offered yearly.
How many times can I repeat a PRN course?
You can repeat a PRN course once. If a student fails on the second attempt, the student will be out of the Practical Nursing program.
What are other rules related to dismissal from the Practical Nursing program?
Practical nursing students should have no more than three (3) failures in the program.
What are the Practical Nursing courses?
Courses with the abbreviation PRN are part of the Practical Nursing curriculum.
Can I be exempt for any Practical Nursing course?
Students who completed Anatomy 1 & 2 (BSC2085/2086 and Labs) during the past ten years are exempt for PRN 0022 course.
Also, students with Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) by the State of Florida are exempt for HSC 0001 (Intro to Healthcare) and PRN 0001C (Basic Patient Care).
Can I apply for financial aid?
All students at the Medical Center Campus should apply for financial aid, which includes the Federal Pell Grant, Federal Supplemental Grant, Federal Perkins Loan, Federal Work Study, and Federal Subsidized loans. The Campus also offers emergency short-term loans and a variety of scholarships.
Application can be made in the Financial Aid Office (Room 1201) on the Medical Center Campus. Those who apply before April 1st for the following academic year are given priority. Only courses in which students have registered before the 100 percent refund date qualify for financial aid. For additional information, call the Financial Aid personnel at 305-237-4160.
