Registered Nursing (Associate in Science)

Nursing Bridge Option: Pre-Select Curriculum

Application Criteria – Bridge/Transitional Option (Full Time, Part Time, Bridge Online)

To apply to the Transitional/Bridge Option in the School of Nursing, the applicant must:

1.Successfully complete HSC 0003, Introduction to Health Care prior to the application deadline. Should you have prior medical training, are a foreign medical graduate or possess a current Florida license in a medical field and a current CPR card, you may be eligible for an exemption. To speak to a representative about this exemption only, contact the School of Health Sciences and Related Studies at 305-237-4134. For information related to the School of Nursing programs, please call 305-237-4101.

2. Successfully complete the following general education and natural sciences pre-requisite courses with a "C" or higher prior to the application deadlines:

* Although it is not required, it is highly recommended that students enroll in MCB 2010L when taking MCB 2010. Students planning to transition from the ADN to the BSN program are required to successfully complete MCB 2010L.

** Anatomy and Physiology courses must be completed within 10 years of application deadline date. Any student with a passing grade for courses over 10 years old will need to see an Advisor at Medical Campus to complete an "Appeal to Repeat a Course with a "C" or Better."

3. Possess a current license/certification as a:

  1. State of Florida Licensed Practical Nurse
  2. State of Florida Certified Paramedic
  3. State of Florida Licensed Registered Respiratory Therapist
  4. Military Medics (Will need to provide DD214)
  5. State of Florida Registered Medical Assistants (RMA)

4. Have a minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) of 2.5.

5. Graduates from an accredited institution outside the United States must provide official transcripts, translation and evaluation and must participate in the TOEFL process – please see an academic advisor for more details.

Additional Requirements:
1. The following courses must be completed to be awarded the Associate in Science Degree.
CGS 1060‡ Introduction to Microcomputer

Applicants may complete this requirement with the successful completion of the Computer Competency Test. This course requirement must be completed by the 31st credit of enrollment.

2. Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN) who have been out of practice for five or more years must successfully complete NRG 051 - Nursing Skills Update Course with a grade of “S” before applying.

3. Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN) who hold a CURRENT Florida LPN license and have been actively working in a healthcare setting (Letter from Employer) as LPNs, do not need to take the NRG 051 - Nursing Skills Update Course.

4. LPNs who have graduated within the past year do not need to take NRG 051 – Nursing Skills Update.

5. Selection criteria will be based on overall cumulative GPA and natural science GPA.

6. Applicants with more than three (3) grades of “D”, “F”, or “W” in the required natural science pre-requisite courses are not eligible for entry in any of the Nursing program options.

7. Additionally, applicants with more than two (2) enrollments (D, F, or W) for any of the required natural science pre-requisite courses are not eligible for entry into any of the Nursing program options.

8. All students must attend a SOS Pre-Nursing Boot Camp upon acceptance into any of the Nursing program options.

Selection Criteria:

1. All Cumulative GPA (40%)

2. Natural Sciences GPA (60%)

All Medical Campus students must complete the FDLE Waiver and Statement form.This form is to authorize dissemination to Miami Dade College - Medical Campus of any national criminal history record that may pertain to you.

In addition, all program students must complete a "background check" through the identified MDC agent and cleared by the 1st day of class. Depending on your program of study an additional background check may be required. In addition, prior to entry into a clinical site, some clinical sites will require more frequent background checks and clearance.

Successful completion of the MDC level two background check process or completion of a MDC nursing/health sciences program does not guarantee a graduate's eligibility for participation in the professional credentialing process or for related employment. Credentialing agencies and health care employers may have additional eligibility criteria not required by an educational institution. Individuals who have been arrested or convicted of any felony crime during the last 15 years are strongly urged to inquire directly of the licensing board in the jurisdiction in which they intend to practice.
