Registered Nursing (Associate in Science)

Nursing Bridge Option: Pre-Select Curriculum (Effective 2009-2)


The School of Nursing also offers this option online. Student will attend theory courses only thru the web and clinical courses will be in different clinical sites throughout Dade County.

Selection is based on the students' cumulative grade point average (GPA) and successful completion of prerequisite courses. Students who are currently enrolled in all prerequisite courses of the chosen option are also eligible for selection.

Pre-Admission Courses (Total 30 credits required)

1. General Education Courses (15 credits required)

Students are advised to complete the following courses before being admitted to the Nursing program. Students must take courses marked with asterik (*) before starting the nursing program.
However, Full-Time Bridge and Bridge online students can have only three (3) remaining General Education/Science courses.

2. Natural Science* (15 credits required)

Student must complete successfully the following Natural Science courses prior to entering the Nursing program. MCB 2010 can be taken along with nursing curriculum before graduating from the program.

Additional Requirements
Student must successfully complete CGS 1060 (Intro to Microcomputer Usage) or have a passing score on the Computer Competency test.

Non-Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) students must take the course NRG 051 before applying to the program.

Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) students who have been out of practice for five or more years must take NRG 051 before applying.

Students must successfully complete the National League for Nursing (NLN) Comprehensive Predictor for Practical Nursing exam with a score of 128 or higher.  The NLN test should be no more than five (5) years old from completion date.  Passing Comprehensive Predictor assessment from other NLN accredited school will be accepted.

Students must successfully complete the NLN Nursing Accelerated Challenge Exam (NACE) with a score of 65% or higher.  The NLN NACE test score should be no more than five years old from completion date.
Any LPN that has ATI PN Comprehensive Predictor scores within the past two (2) years will not have to take the NLN NACE if they have passing ATI scores (90% probability of Passing NCLEX or higher.)

Any LPN graduate student who took the NLN Comprehensive Predictor exam as part of their graduation requirements for their LPN program, are exempt from taking the NLN NACE.  The PN graduation date must be within the past five (5) years.

LPN’s who graduated within the past five (5) years, hold a CURRENT LPN license and have been actively working as LPNs, do not need to take the Nursing Skills Update Course.

Additional Information
Students with 3 or more grades of “D”, “F”, or “W” in required Natural Science courses are not eligible for entry in the Associate Degree Nursing program. Students are also required to have no more than two (2) enrollments (D, F, W) for any individual natural science course for the program. Minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) of 2.0 is required.
Students should take at least one (1) Human Anatomy & Physiology course lecture without lab if their Anatomy courses were taken more than ten (10) years ago.
