Registered Nursing (Associate in Science)

Bridge Option


Selection is based on the students’ cumulative grade point average (GPA) and successful completion of prerequisite courses. Students who are currently enrolled in all prerequisite courses of the chosen option are also eligible for selection.

The Bridge Option is designed for Licensed Practical Nurses (PN) and other individuals with specific health-related education and license/certification who desire to become Registered Nurses. Graduates earn an Associate in Science Degree and are eligible to apply to write the National Council Licensure Examination to become Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN).

This program is available in three (3) full-time semesters or a six (6) semesters part-time track, following completion of general academic course work. Students may begin the full-time Bridge Nursing Option in August or January. The part-time track is only offered in January.

The application deadline for Fall term is May 1st. The application deadline for Spring term is September 1st. A total of 72 credits is required for an Associate in Science degree, of which 42 consist of the nursing credits in the nursing curriculum. This program is accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing, Inc. (ACEN) and approved by the Florida Board of Nursing (FBON). Graduates are eligible to apply to write the National Council Licensing Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN).

The School of Nursing also offers this option online. The bridge online option allows for theoretical courses to be taken online. Students must attend clinicals for this option.

Minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) of 2.5 is required.

In addition, all program students must complete a "background check" through the identified MDC agent https://ibrinc.com/mdc/select and cleared by the 1st day of class. Depending on your program of study an additional background check may be required. In addition, prior to entry into a clinical site, some clinical sites will require more frequent background checks and clearance.

Successful completion of the MDC level two background check process or completion of a MDC nursing/health sciences program does not guarantee a graduate's eligibility for participation in the professional credentialing process or for related employment. Credentialing agencies and health care employers may have additional eligibility criteria not required by an educational institution. Individuals who have been arrested or convicted of any felony crime during the last 15 years are strongly urged to inquire directly of the licensing board in the jurisdiction in which they intend to practice.
