- Dual Enrollment students must demonstrate readiness for college-level coursework. To enroll in college credit courses, students must pass the appropriate sections of the CPT, ACT, or SAT with scores meeting state requirements. The College's 2007-2008 Placement Criteria Document
contains specific information for Dual Enrollment students (see Section V).
- Students must pass the English and reading sections of the CPT, ACT, or SAT prior to registering for courses not related to mathematics, performing arts, and visual arts.
- Students must pass the reading and college-level mathematics section of the CPT, or meet MDC's required ACT/SAT scores prior to registering for MAC 1105 or higher, or any course that requires mathematics as a pre-requisite.
- Students must pass the reading and elementary algebra section of the CPT, or pass the required reading and mathematics section of the ACT or SAT prior to registering for accounting courses.
- Students must pass all sections of the CPT, ACT, or SAT for science (biology, chemistry, physics, earth science) and engineering courses.
| | Writing | Reading | Math** |
| CPT | 83-120 | 83-120 | 90-120* |
| SAT | 440+ | 440+ | 440+ |
| ACT | 17+ | 18+ | 19+ |
** Math: If a student scores 90 or above on the CPT (Elementary Algebra Test), the student will be allowed to take the College-Level Math sub-test to qualify for placement in college-level math. A score of 40+ or above on the College-Level Math (CLM) test is required to enroll in any college-level math course.
NOTE: MAT 1033-Intermediate Algebra-- is a "bridge" course at MDC and because it does not satisfy General Education requirements toward the AA degree, it does not count toward graduation.
Miami Dade College will be participating in an FCAT/CPT Pilot Project that will allow any enrolled MDC student -- regular admitted or dual enrollment students -- to be exempt from taking the CPT if they earn an FCAT scale score within the ranges listed below (based on the 2005 FCAT scores).
- Reading 355-500 (equivalent of Level 4 or 5) for Exemption from College Preparatory Reading and placement in ENC 1101
- Math 375-500 (equivalent of Level 5) for placement in MAC 1105, MGF 1106, or MGF 1107
FCAT notes:
- MDC will implement the use of FCAT scores when all the mechanisms are in place. The scheduled implementation date is Monday, July 16, 2007.
- Reading scores will exempt for both the reading and writing sections of the CPT
- A passing FCAT score in one subject area may be used with a passing CPT, ACT, or SAT score in another subject area. In addition, the two year valid testing period that is used for the CPT, ACT, or SAT will not be used for the FCAT, since students begin taking the FCAT in the 10th grade.
- In addition, the two year valid testing period that is used for the CPT, ACT, or SAT will not be used for the FCAT, since students begin taking the FCAT in the 10th grade. The MDC procedure will be to expire the score if it was not used for placement 2 years after the student’s high school graduation date
- Students scoring below the required FCAT ranges will be required to take the CPT for appropriate placement or to provide evidence of exemption through the ACT or SAT if they have earned a minimum of one of the following scores
- SAT verbal score of 440
- SAT math score of 440
- ACT reading score of 18
- ACT English score of 17
- ACT math score of 19
- FCAT scores that are not downloaded electronically will need to be verified by the Campus Testing Department. This is the same process that is used for ACT/SAT scores.
