How does
this course work?
In this course you will experience
trips, read articles, hear speakers, eat organic food, and reflect
on various ideas. All of these will involve sharing ideas and
learning with others in the class.
What is Earth Literacy?
Earth literacy, in short, is comprehension of how the story of the
Universe’s history and evolution affect Earth and her inhabitants.
Why should I take this course?
The
most significant issues of the present and future are directly
connected to how we relate to the planet. Scientists agree that the
planet is in peril and our ability to reverse current trends is
essential. Knowledge gained in this course will help you,
regardless of your field, find ways to harmonize with Earth.
How is this course different
from others?
The
topics in the course cross many disciplines and cover a wide range
of subjects including but not limited to, sustainability, ecology,
culture, spirituality, history and agriculture. The format is
primarily experiential, discussion and very participatory. You will
be able to contribute to some aspects of the course structure. There
will be two field experiences. There will not be long lectures.
How
does this course count in my Miami Dade College experience?
It
is an elective that is part of the 24 hour
elective block and as such will count as any other elective does
to an AA degree. It
is transferable to other institutions for credit. It will be on your transcript.
Do I need the professor’s
permission to register?
No.
Are there any prerequisites?
No.
This course is open to all students from any major. Students must be
English proficient, so it is not open to students below the advanced
English as a Second Language level.
