Your Journey Starts Here

Honors College students are selected from a competitive process that includes an online application, letters of recommendation, official test scores, writing samples, and possibly an interview. The early decision application deadline for admission for the 2016-2017 academic year is February 1, 2016 and the final deadline is April 1, 2016.

You must submit a Miami Dade College application before you can apply to The Honors College. Choose the option that is right for you:

  • First time applicants to Miami Dade College apply here
  • If you have already applied to Miami Dade College and you know your MDC ID number, go directly to The Honors College eligibility questions in Step 3.
  • If you recently applied to Miami Dade College and you don't know your MDC ID number, check the status of your application. If it has been issued, you will find it there.

If you are a first time applicant to Miami Dade College you will have to wait for the college to give you an MDC ID number. There are several possibilities after you submit the MDC application:

  • The system may generate an MDC ID automatically
  • If it does not provide the number automatically, you will have to wait until the system completes the process to determine if you are eligible for one. Additional information may be required. Check the status of your application to Miami Dade College twenty-four (24) hours after submitting it for further instructions.
  • If you have a duplicate record in the system, this will further delay the Miami Dade College application process. Try to use the same information used in the original MDC application previously filed to expedite this step.

Should you have any questions about your Miami Dade College application, MDC ID number or accessing your MYMDC account please contact technical support. We also invite you to contact The Honors College if you need any further assistance or call 305-237-7077.

Once you have your MDC ID number answer the questions in the first screen of The Honors College application to determine if you are eligible. You must be a first time in college applicant who either:

  • Has at least a 3.7 GPA (weighted or un-weighted) and
  • Performed at college-level on one of the following exams: SAT/ACT/PERT (see college level scores listed below)

  • Has a GPA below a 3.7 (weighted or un-weighted) and
  • Scored at least a 1200 on the SAT (math and reading only) or a 26 on the ACT with college level scores in each category as described below

Your scores are college level if they are at least:

  • SAT: 440 in Reading and 440 in Math
  • ACT: 19 in Reading, 17 English and 19 in Math (On or after October 22, 2014)
  • PERT: 106 in Reading, English 103 and 114 in Math (On or after October 22, 2014)

NOTE: Only scores from tests taken within two years of intended admission date are eligible. This means that if took the ACT, SAT, or PERT more than two years from your intended admission date, test(s) will have to be retaken, if you wish to apply.

If you have not taken the exam yet or do not reside in the United States read the following:

  • If you have not taken any of these exams yet, you must take them before proceeding with the application.
  • If you are an international student who resides in the United States contact your guidance counselor to find out where you can take one of these exams. Additionally, you can also contact Miami Dade College for options as well as testing information.
  • If you are an international student who does not reside in the United States and have not taken any of these exams contact us or call (305) 237-7077 before the deadlines.
  • If you meet The Honors College eligibility requirements, then you will proceed to the next page of the application. Be certain to answer all of the questions completely. Should you miss any part of the answer to a question that is mandatory, the system will prompt you with a message in red letters/symbols either at the top of the page or near the missed question to provide the information. Remember to upload the writing samples including the statement of purpose and essay.
  • If you are not eligible to apply to The Honors College, you will receive a notification message. Contact us only if you believe you received this message in error. (This means that you could establish that you do in fact meet the eligibility requirements described in Step 3).
  • When you have completed all of the questions and uploaded your writing samples, you will receive a message that will state that your online application is complete. This does not mean that your Admission File is complete. Step 5 explains how to manage the process to complete your file.

As you review the application you will notice that test scores are required, two recommendations must be submitted, and transcript(s) must be received. Be certain to request all of these supplemental materials early. Your Admission File will not be considered complete until all required documents are received.

It is your responsibility to check your online application status to determine whether or not these items have been received. If you wish to receive consideration for early decision, all of these materials must be received by February 1, 2016. Any admission file that is incomplete after that date will remain active until the final deadline: April 1, 2016.
