Library Obligations
Borrowers are responsible for all materials checked out to their accounts. If
materials are not returned, a hold is placed in the College database that
prevents the borrower from registering for classes or obtaining transcripts. The
hold will not be removed until the borrower returns the materials or presents a
receipt from the Bursar's Office verifying that the items have been paid for.
Borrowers are strongly advised not to lend their
MDC Card to others, and to
contact the library immediately to report a lost or stolen card.
To see what materials are currently checked
out to you and to view any outstanding obligations, log into your
LINCCWeb Account
(Borrower ID = your student number; PIN = last 4 digits of your
student number), or contact the Library Circulation
Desk at (305) 237-2291.

Reference and Information
Services

Reference librarians are available to provide assistance with finding
information, conducting research, and using the library's resources and
services. Visit the Reference and Information Services Desk, or call (305)
237-2077 or (305) 237-2292. Reference services are provided in adherence
to the Kendall Campus Library
Reference Policy.
The Reference Collection contains dictionaries, encyclopedias,
thesauri, almanacs, atlases, indexes, directories, and a variety of other
research tools. A small "Ready Reference" collection of frequently used
resources is kept at the Reference and Information Services Desk and may be requested with a photo ID. Reference and Ready Reference
materials may not be taken from the library.
The Miami Dade College Libraries participate in a statewide collaborative
project called Ask-a-Librarian.
This free "virtual reference" service offers the opportunity to communicate with
librarians via e-mail or live chat. The live chat component (which operates
Sunday through Thursday from 10:00 a.m. to midnight, and Friday and Saturday
from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.) includes a
co-browsing feature that allows librarians to "escort" users to various online
resources. Ask-a-Librarian is a joint project between Florida's
College Center
for Library Automation and the Tampa Bay Library Consortium.

Library Instruction

The purpose of Library Instruction is to familiarize students with the
library, and to enable them to retrieve and evaluate information from a variety
of resources in a variety of formats. Hands-on instruction sessions are
conducted by reference librarians in the Electronic Classroom (room 2253) by
appointment. In
these sessions, students learn how to find books using the library catalog, and
how to find articles and other information using electronic databases. Students may
be asked to complete a
Library
Assignment to reinforce the concepts presented in class.
To schedule a class for a Library Instruction
session, Kendall Campus faculty members may click
here
to complete an online request form, or contact
Laurie Hime at (305)
237-2295.
Students may elect to take a
credit course
entitled Introduction to Library Research (LIS 1001).
Click here for more information, or contact
Laurie Hime at (305) 237-2295.

Interlibrary Loan
Books or articles that are not owned by the Kendall Campus Library may be
obtained from other campuses or institutions via Interlibrary
Loan (ILL). MDC students or employees may visit the Reference and
Information Services Desk or call (305)
237-2077 or (305) 237-2292 for assistance with placing ILL
requests.
Items that can be obtained from libraries within Florida's Community
College System are usually received within 3 to 7 days. Other items may take up
to 2 weeks to be received.
The borrower is notified when a requested item becomes available for pick-up
at the Circulation/Reserve Desk. The loan period for the item
depends on the policy of the owning institution.

Computer Workstations
Computer workstations are available on a first-come first-served
basis. However, when demand is high, Miami Dade College students who wish to use
the computers for course-related work have first priority.
A MyMDC Account is
required to log into a computer workstation. (If you have not
yet created your MyMDC Account, click
here.) For non-MDC patrons, a temporary
guest account may be issued with proper photo ID.
All
of the library's computer workstations are
equipped with Microsoft Office. Printing is available through a
pay-to-print system. (Click here for more
information about printing.)
If you have your own laptop, you can connect to the library's wireless
network. A MyMDC Account is required. Printing from your own
laptop is not available at this time.

Printing and
Photocopying
All registered students have a Pay to
Print (P2P) account associated with their MyMDC Account. Value may be
added to the P2P account at the Print Release
Station in the library, or at any of the College's print release locations. The cost of
printing is 8 cents per black & white page, or 40 cents per color page. The
Print Release Stations do not accept coins.
The P2P account may also be used to pay
for photocopies. The library's photocopiers also accept dollar bills and
coins. The cost is
8 cents per page if using the P2P account, or 10 cents per page if using cash.
Color photocopying is not available at this time.
Please note: Only a very
small amount of cash is kept in the library, which means that change is often unavailable. Library users are encouraged to bring
with them a sufficient supply of change for printing and photocopying.
