Foreign
Languages Program: |
The Foreign
Language Program provides credit courses in a variety of
foreign languages to regular college students who are
studying a foreign language to satisfy academic
requirements or to advance their knowledge of a language
and culture they have already studied. In order to enter
a State University a student must have two sequential
units of study in one foreign language in high school or
eight to ten credit hours of sequential study in one
foreign language at the college level.
|
LEVELS
The Foreign Language Program at Wolfson Campus offers five foreign
languages: French, Italian, Portuguese, Russian, and
Spanish. There are four levels of elementary and
intermediate foreign languages, each of which is four
credits as it includes lab work. These courses are
numbered using the following system:
• 1120 and 1121 indicate the elementary levels
• 2220 and 2201 indicated the intermediate levels
In addition, there are several special interest courses
offered for more advanced students, such as Conversation
and Literature.
|
FALL AND
SPRING SEMESTERS
The Fall and Spring Semesters are 16 weeks each. During
these semesters, with the exception of the special
interest classes, the semester is divided into two
8-week sessions so that students take 1120 or 2220
during the first 8-week session and 1121 or 2201 during
the second 8-week session.
|
SUMMER
SEMESTERS
The Summer Semester is 12 weeks, and classes are offered
in two 6-week sessions or one 12-week Saturday session.
|
PLACEMENT
In the Foreign Language program, students who have never
studied the language self-register. Continuing students
are registered by a full-time member of the Foreign
Language Program. |
