ACCUPLACER ESL
Effective
October 26, 2020 the BESPI is a pre-requisite for taking the ACCUPLACER ESL. After completing the BESPI, students rated Level 3 and higher must take the ACCUPLACER ESL.
Refer to BESPI.
ACCUPLACER ESL is a multiple-choice format (except for WritePlacer, the written essay assessment). There's no time limit. The test is adaptive. Questions are presented based on individual's skill level. The response to each question drives the difficulty level of the next question. This means that the questions are chosen for you on the basis of your answers to previous questions. This technique selects just the right questions for your ability level. Because the test works this way, you must answer every question when it is first given. You can change your answer to a particular question before moving on to the next question, but you cannot leave a question out or come back to it later to change your answer. If you do not know the answer to a question, try to eliminate one or more of the choices. Then pick from the remaining choices.
The ACCUPLACER Student Portal allows you to review your test scores, reprint your Individual Score Report (ISR), and send your scores to other institutions. Retest Procedure:
ACCUPLACER ESL scores are valid for one year. If a student does not use these scores for course placement during that time, retesting will be required. For initial placement, students may retest once on the ACCUPLACER ESL test battery, beginning with Reading Skills, or they can retake WritePlacer ESL alone. A retesting fee will apply. Retesting must occur prior to enrollment or by the 100% refund date each semester. Students who have already begun EAP instruction may be referred for retesting on an individual basis by the department chairperson.
