About Skills and Opportunity for the New American Workforce

The National Immigration Forum, Miami Dade College, and the Community College Consortium for Immigrant Education have partnered to implement this new initiative which works to increase English language skills among retail workers for whom English is a second language. The program is being implemented in three metropolitan areas: Houston, Miami and New York. The classes are delivered at the worksite, in the retailer’s training facilities or on campus, in partnership with the following colleges and organizations: LaGuardia Community College, Lone Star College, Miami Dade College, Westchester Community College, Bergen County Technical Schools and Neighborhood Centers Inc. This program is funded through the Walmart Foundation’s ongoing commitment to create economic mobility for the retail workforce.
