COVERSTORY

History on Film
Thanks to the continued stewardship of community philanthropist and activist Lynn Wolfson, an invaluable film and video collection is being entrusted to MDC.
Student leaders and Honors College scholars attended the inauguration of President Barack Obama in Washington, D.C. While in the nation’s capital, some students met with U.S. Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (third from right) and other members of Congress.
College alumna and Miami-Dade State Attorney Katherine Fernández Rundle (right) joined other South Florida civic and public officials for the swearing-in ceremony for alumnus Carlos Martínez, the first Cuban-American public defender in Florida.
Florida Gov. Charlie Crist was one of many dignitaries in attendance at the 75th anniversary celebration of the International Rescue Commission. The event, held at MDC’s Freedom Tower, honored musician Paquito D’Rivera and the late Dolores Smithies.
In 1967, Dustin Hoffman visited Miami Dade College to promote Mike Nichols’ "The Graduate." MDC recognizes the importance of film as an important cultural experience and presents Miami International Film Festival to all of South Florida.
