About the Program
The Next Tech Generation program provides high school students graduating in 2021 with free tuition, a book stipend and industry certification support for online technology summer classes. The goal is to prepare students to fill the growing demand for the next generation of technology professionals in Miami. Students can select courses in Cybersecurity, Cloud Computing, Data Analysis, Programming, IT or Internet of Things.
The Next Tech Generation program courses will take place during the second six-week summer session, from June 21st to August 2nd.
Participants Will Receive:
- In-state tuition for a 4-credit technology course plus fees
- Book stipend (up to $150)
- A laptop computer based on needs
- Voucher to take certification exam
- Preparation materials for tech certification in high demand
- Access to speakers from partners like Facebook, IBM and AWS
- Internship opportunities
- Career exploration, counseling, and resume assistance
Technology Areas of Study
Learn the core knowledge required of any cybersecurity role. Students will learn to install and configure systems to secure applications, networks, and devices; perform threat analysis and respond with appropriate mitigation techniques. Coverage includes preparation for the CompTIA Security+ certification.
Learn the foundation of cloud computing from a business and technical perspective, including cloud concepts, services, architecture, system integration, connectivity, data center migration, administration, security, and technical support. Coverage includes preparation for the AWS Cloud Practitioner certification.
Learn data analytics and the role it plays in modern organizations. Students will use business intelligence tools to effectively communicate findings through data visualizations tools and dashboards to decision makers.
Learn how to code with Python or C++. Students in these courses learn the syntax and rules of multiple programming language, including how to code, compile, and execute programs.
Learn about computers hardware and software. Students will gain the technical knowledge and skills for employment as entry-level computer help desk and support technicians. The courses lead to the certification CompTIA A+.
