About STEM Legacy

STEM Legacy offers student support services, academic assistance, and innovative programming to STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) students at Miami Dade College Wolfson campus. If you are majoring in these fields, this program was designed to assist you achieve academic success and offer you a wealth of opportunities.

Academic Services

STEM AXIS

STEM AXIS is located at Wolfson Campus in room 2214. It offers a place to study, tutoring in math and science, and advice on effective study skills. Visit us and connect to students pursuing similar interests.

Peer-led Team Learning (PLTL)

Improve your science and math grades by signing up for PLTL when your professor offers it. PLTL are small group sessions that meet on a weekly basis to review course material in a supportive learning environment.

Specialized Courses

These STEM courses are enhanced with high-impact teaching practices which integrate course learning objectives with problem- or project-based learning strategies geared toward real-world situations. Courses culminate in a semesterly Project-Based Learning (PBL) Expo.

COALESCE

Through COALESCE (Creating Opportunities for Applied Learning Experiences in Science, Computing, & Engineering), students have the opportunity to work with faculty who are involved in research projects in STEM. Students also have the opportunity work with their peers and a STEM employer on an industry challenge as a ‘Team Internship.

Academic Advising and Coaching

Individual advising and coaching offers the support needed to develop a solid academic plan based on your career path. Assistance with goal-setting, academic resources, and career planning are also offered.

Events and Workshops

Social events and workshops on completing undergraduate research, becoming career-ready, and maintaining your health and wellbeing are among the many activities designed to introduce you to your peers, expose you to STEM related topics, research and development, and career opportunities.

Generation Finn

Generation Finn is a dual-enrollment summer bridge initiative which prepares middle and high school students for college-level coursework by expanding early access to STEM classes, embedding enrichment experiences, and building a socially supportive pipeline from middle school to college.

STEM Student Association (STEMSA)

STEM Legacy serves as STEMSA’s Advisor. STEMSA provides a platform for student-led initiatives to co-create STEM learning experiences on campus. STEMSA has a strong role in fostering a sense of belonging among STEM students within their majors and career pathways.
