Admission Requirements

To be eligible to request a milestone review for the Licensed Practical Nursing Program, you must complete the following steps to become an active Miami Dade College student:

Step 1. Verify that you are 18 years old

Step 2. Have earned a high school diploma or GED (or will have earned one by the time of enrollment into the program)

  • If you have completed high school in a foreign country or prior to 2007, you have to take the TABE test with a minimum score of 11 in all subject areas.
    • Students can make an appointment with the Testing Department at (305) 237-4275.
    • You can be exempt from taking the TABE if you have taken ENC1101.

    Step 3. Receive a composite score of greater than 60% on the ATI TEAS entrance exam

    • The ATI TEAS exam must be taken with a Miami Dade College Testing and Assessment department
    • Please complete TEAS for Nursing Exam Request Form, and the Testing and Assessment Department will reach out to you shortly

    Step 4. Apply to MDC. If you have never taken classes at MDC, or haven't taken classes in more than an academic year, please complete a Miami Dade College application.

    Step 5. Send Transcripts from your high school and previously attended colleges/universities as applicable.

    Step 6. Meet with a Medical Campus Advisor to discuss program requirements and milestone checkpoints.

    Effective December 6, 2023, the Licensed Practical Nursing Program is a candidate for initial accreditation by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing. This candidacy status expires on December 6, 2025.

    Note: Upon granting of initial accreditation by the ACEN Board of Commissioners, the effective date of initial accreditation is the date on which the nursing program was approved by the ACEN as a candidate program that concluded in the Board of Commissioners granting initial accreditation.
