Kemuel Roig was accepted at age 8 into the vocational art school Ñola Sahig in Ciego de Ávila, Cuba, to study classical piano and drums. In 2002 his family moved to Miami and two years later, at 16, he enrolled at Miami Dade College, Wolfson Campus, to study jazz under the supervision of Dr. Michael Di Liddo and Michael Gerber.
He was invited, along with MDC's Hard Bop Jazz Ensemble, to be part of the Umbria Jazz Festival in Italy. With this group he also won DownBeat magazine's 2005 student competition.
After MDC, Roig earned a bachelor's degree in music from Florida International University, and in 2015 his master's degree from the Frost School of Music at the University of Miami.
Roig has toured, produced and recorded with numerous luminaries of contemporary jazz and other genres. This list includes Arturo Sandoval, Al Di Meola, Ed Calle, Amaury Gutierrez, Ben-Hur Berroa and Aymée Nuviola, among others.
