This course provides a framework for initiating and conducting investigations of human trafficking (HT) offenses relevant to patrol officers as well as investigators and include areas of instructions in the nature and scope of human trafficking, Investigative methods that have proven successful in dismantling and prosecuting HT organizations, the unique victim-centered approach and multi-jurisdictional nature of a human trafficking investigations, and the collaboration with Non-Governmental Organizations required for rescue and restoration of the victims and increased community awareness. This training is based on the FDLE curriculum – CJSTC 1166.

Instructor(s): Lead: Julio Pinera, Ret. Lt. Miami Police Dept.: Mr. Pinera brings extensive investigative experience that he gained while serving in various tactical and strategic investigative units during his 22-year career with the Miami Police Department. As a member of a federal task force for several years, Mr. Pinera was directly involved in HT investigations as well as other long-term complex investigations. Other presenters will include state and federal prosecutors and investigators involved in HT investigations
