The Institute for Freedom in the Americas is dedicated to fostering a culture of freedom, democracy and global governance. The Institute prepares current and emerging leaders to make a lasting, positive impact in their communities by championing democratic values and processes, strengthening civic engagement, elevating public dialogue and advancing practical solutions to the challenges facing democracies today.
Made possible through the leadership of Governor Ron DeSantis and the Florida Legislature, the passage of SB 1264 strengthens education standards by expanding instruction on the history and harms of communism and establishes the Institute at Miami Dade College. Through this legislation, the Institute is authorized to promote the importance of economic and individual freedoms to advance human progress, particularly in Latin America and the Caribbean.
Housed at Miami’s iconic Freedom Tower, the Institute serves as a hub for convening ideas and leaders across the Americas, bringing together scholars, policymakers and practitioners to explore democratic resilience, governance and the conditions that allow people and nations to thrive.
A centerpiece of this work is the Institute’s year long Fellowship, which deepens our commitment to the values of public service, integrity, collaboration and innovation. Fellows engage with top scholars, policymakers and former heads of state, gaining practical experience while tackling critical issues confronting democracy. The program features interactive seminars, experiential learning and structured mentoring, and each Fellow contributes to the Institute’s thought leadership through research, dialogue and real-world problem solving.
Here, at Democracy’s College, future leaders learn to defend democracy and create innovative policies that promote economic freedom and human prosperity for generations to come.
