The purpose of the Fire Science Program is to provide educational opportunities for students to attain and improve their knowledge, skills, and abilities to gain entry into the workforce, improve applicable workforce skills, and prepare for advancement within the Fire Rescue or emergency management arena through credit and non-credit course offerings.

The Fire Science Program provides opportunities for students to achieve their goals of earning a certificate or degree to get a better job and make more money.

The Fire Science Program offers programs such as:

  • The Associate in Science degree in Fire Science Technology, Fire Safety Inspector Preparation Courses, Fire Fighter Minimum Standards (FFMS) Career, Training and Education, and Community Workforce Education (CWE) in the firefighting area.
  • The Fire Safety Inspector Preparation Courses provides students with the necessary requirements to qualify for the Fire Safety Inspector state certification.
  • The FFMS program encompasses the State Certification examination requirements for Firefighter II state and Pro-Board certifications.
  • CWE provides qualification and requalification training for Florida Power & Light nuclear power station firefighters.

In addition, the Fire Science Program provides student opportunities for live fire training through the operation of the only non-fire department state Certified Fire Training Center and Live Fire Training Facility in Miami-Dade County.
