Internships are the beginning of your career. You should be prepared, professional, ethical and reliable during the entire process because the employer could offer a job at the end.

To be eligible, students must be:

  • Degree seeking and have a GPA of at least 2.0
  • In good financial standing
  • Currently enrolled in the college

Internship Seasons

  • Fall internship dates typically start in September
  • Spring internship dates typically start in January
  • Summer internship dates typically start in June

Search and Apply

  • Know why you’re looking for an internship
  • Have a Career Coach review your resume
  • Schedule a practice interview with your Career Coach

Internship Process

  1. Login to Handshake using your MDC username and password
  2. Create a profile
  3. Upload a resume
  4. Contact the Internship Services Coordinator for support and assistance
  5. Start applying to internships

During the Internship

  • Develop professional relationships
  • Find a mentor
  • Set personal goals
  • Conduct informational interviews

After the Internship

  • Add your internship to your LinkedIn Profile and resume
  • Connect with people who assisted you on LinkedIn
  • Ask for feedback for the future
  • Send a thank you letter/ email
  • Ask for a letter of recommendation or a professional reference
