Program Learning Outcomes

  1. By the completion of the program, the student will demonstrate effective written, oral, and reading communication skills with patients/clients, other health care providers,and the community.
  2. By the completion of the program, the student will adhere to legal, ethical, and professional behaviors while serving as a health care provider.
  3. By the completion of the program, the student will demonstrate the required skills to become a competent health care practitioner.

Upon completion of the BAS-CLS program, graduates will be expected to demonstrate competencies in the following:

  1. All major areas practiced in the contemporary clinical laboratory.
  2. Application of safety and governmental regulations and standards as applied to clinical laboratory science.
  3. Principles and practices of professional conduct and the significance of continuing professional development.
  4. Communications sufficient to serve the needs of patients, the public and members of the health care team.
  5. Principles and practices of administration and supervision as applied to clinical laboratory science.
  6. Educational methodologies and terminology sufficient to train/educate users and providers of laboratory services.
  7. Principles and practices of clinical study design, implementation and dissemination of results

Upon completion of the BAS-CLS program, graduates will demonstrate competencies necessary to perform the full range of clinical laboratory tests in areas such as:

  1. Clinical Chemistry
  2. Hematology/Hemostasis
  3. Immunology
  4. Immunohematology/Transfusion Medicine
  5. Microbiology
  6. Urine and Body Fluid Analysis
  7. Laboratory Operations
  8. Emerging diagnostics
  9. Development and evaluation of test systems and interpretive algorithms
